Luke Mulholland started playing classical acoustic guitar at age 10. At 12 years old, Luke got his first electric guitar and by age 13 he was accomplished at replicating the rock sounds of the day - Blink 182, Limp Bizkit, Sum 41 and other modern rock acts.
Tired of the 'packaged sounds' of the record industry, like so many kids his age, Luke turned to the classic rock sounds of the 1960's and 70's. He was soon cutting his chops on classic Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Clapton. With his burgeoning guitar skills and musical talent, Luke's interests turned back to the roots of the blues and R& B, and he was soon playing early Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Ray Charles.
By age 14, Luke was sneaking into live venues throughout Toronto, playing the classic rock and blues sounds he loved on 'live mic' and 'open jam' nights. At 14 years old, Luke wrote and recorded his first album of original music, ROAD HOME, on which he played all the instruments, (lead guitar, rhythm, and bass guitar), sang vocals and downloaded digital drum tracks, recording and mixing the entire album on a home 8-track digital recorder. The album remains a surprisingly mature collection of guitar-driven hard rock and blues.
At 15 years old, Luke hooked up with bassist Barry Murray and drummer Karim Moussa, seasoned veterans of the club and concert circuit, to form Mulholland Drive. Both musicians were impressed with Luke's original rock sound, writing and guitar playing.
Karim Moussa started drumming at the age of 12 and was touring professionally across Canada by the age of 17. Over the years, Karim has had toured and played with recording artists such as David Wilcox, Sass Jordan, Wild T & The Spirit, and The Randy Coven Band (bassist for Steve Vai, Allan Holdsworth, and Mountain).
Barry Murray is an award-winning bassist and a professional musician for over 25 years. Barry has toured extensively throughout North America, the Far East, Europe, and the UK. A veteran session player/arranger/vocalist, he has appeared in numerous music videos and variety shows.
As part of a power trio, Luke was able play his original material in a club setting for the first time and Mulholland Drive's rock and blues-rock sound generated high praise and a genuine following. By the time he was 16, Luke played over 100 live dates with his new band and he became a fixture in the open mic circuit around Toronto. Luke and his band completed an album, LOVE STRENGTH REGRET, that captures the sentiment of the live experience and features the fusion sounds of classic rock and blues that embodies Luke's musical influences.
At 16 yrs old Luke had already written and recorded over 30 rock songs. A talented lead guitar player, vocalist and songwriter, Luke's music is steeped in the classic rock feel of the 1970's combined with an alt-rock sensibility of the 1990's. Far more mature than his 16 years belie, blessed with 'big rock hair' and looks, Luke has drawn early "Bon Jovi look-a-like" and "Stevie Ray Vaughn-like" comparisons. With a commanding and compelling stage presence, Luke and his band, Mulholland Drive have already opened for such Canadian classic rock icons as Goddo, Trooper, Chilliwack, April Wine, David Wilcox, Honeymoon Suite, and Sue Foley. In January of 2006, Luke was selected by Kim Mitchell and Q107 to open for Bon Jovi in front of a sold out house at Air Canada Centre, Toronto.
Mulholland Drive recorded their third album, self-titled, in the fall of 2005, under the production guidance of veteran Richard Chycki, Luke has written an album of diverse and compelling original rock that may well find its way into pop culture and mainstream radio. Luke Mulholland's original music represents both a new direction and a return to the classic rock sounds that have launched a thousand house parties and stood the test of time.
